WARMINSTER WRECKERS

Softball Team Branding / Branding, Packaging
Program: Clip Studio Paint, Illustrator (Ai), Photoshop (Ps)

Instructor: Prof. Caleb Heisey

The team I was assigned was Warminster Wreckers. I chose to go for a shattered glass, meteor effect to embody the team name. Additionally, a softball element was combined to unite the two elements of team name and type of sport to create a unique softball brand.

DESIGN PROCESS

Mind mapping was the first step to guide me towards potential directions I could take the brand. Mind mapping allowed me to find words synonymous to wreckers as well as existing designs of W monograms that served as inspiration for logo concepts. I approached each part of the logo separately to focus on making as distinct of a variation as possible. First it was the monogram, then the softball, then a combination of the two to create a logo that embodied both the monogram and the team quality name, wreckers.

For the first iteration, it was a lot more explosive and aggressive that pushed the brand more towards wrestling than softball. This was due to the logo's spiky elements, jagged and bold type, and red and black color palette. To push the brand towards softball, I introduced elements that were a lot more subtle, emphasized the softball shape, and chose a cooler color palette.

Softball and baseball jerseys share very similar designs, but are different enough to be distinct from other jerseys. The first iteration was more towards esports because of the visual elements spread throughout the jersey with the name and number placements across the chest. For the final iteration, I used a baseball jersey, transferred the patterns onto the sleeves and used similar design placements to push it more towards softball.
